Steve McQueen: the coolest of bad boys

He lived under the spotlight and died young. Actor Steve McQueen was a man's man who knew how to look stylish and cool with confidence.

Steve McQueen the painfully handsome leading man, carved out a reputation as a bona fide bad ass thanks to films such as Bullitt and The Great Escape, but his antics behind the scene only backed up this title.

Spending his time chugging beers, playing with guns, shamelessly breaking public decency laws, and speeding around in cars and on bikes like nobody’s business.

All wrapped up in the ability to rock a chunky cardigan like no other. His style in all its rugged and scuffed state was nothing short of flawless.

“It wasn’t just what he wore, but how he wore things, so naturally and with confidence. He had a relaxed un-self-conscious way of dressing which appeals to men,’ wrote menswear historian Robert E. Bryan.

McQueen’s style was all about a clear-cut masculinity, always choosing clothing with a purpose.  It is important to invest in pieces that look better with a bit of dirt, such as a decent denim shirt or leather biker jacket.
