Cannabis is the most popularly used illegal drug in Europe as it accounts for 38% of the entire drug market, according to a new report commissioned by the EU. Each year Europeans spend at least €24 billion on illicit drugs and cannabis accounts for €9.3b of this overall total. According to the report, some 22 million adults in the EU have used it in the last year and around 1% of European adults use it on an almost daily basis, increasing the risk of health and social problems. The amount of people that use heroin isn't far behind; it's the second most consumed drug with 28% and an estimated €6.8 billion This is followed by cocaine (€5.7 billion), amphetamines (€1.8 billion) and MDMA/ecstasy (€0.67 billion).
