The plougher of love: find the perfect match at this year’s Ploughing Championships

Don't be a stick in the mud

Valentine's Day quiz

Are you the fatal a-tractor?

They say love is usually found where you least expect it. We doubt there are too many going to The Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Stradbally, Co. Laois that expect to find their match there.

What fools they are, as Horse Racing Ireland’s ‘Dating at the Races’ game is set to bring together singletons at this year’s championship.

Leading National Hunt Jockeys Bryan Cooper, Adrian Heskin and Kate Harrington launched the event. At The Races presenter Matt Chapman will be MC-ing the game, which runs each day of the festival from September 22-24.

Each day at 3pm, Matt will give attendees the opportunity to take part in “Dating at the Races” where the lucky lady/gentleman will have the chance to select one of three potential suitors and win a day at the races including hospitality for the winning couple and a group of their friends.

The presenter had this to say about the event: “As anyone who watches At The Races will know, I’m always only too willing to comment on the tractors while gearing up for a race.”

He added: “This is a great chance for me to get involved with Irish culture and play a small part in showing Ireland’s terrific racing industry off to the public. We’ll also be having a bit of fun, so my advice is if you fancy a good day out come and join us as I go ploughing crazy. Yeeehaaa!”

If that isn’t your cup of tea, there will also be number of other live events and games at the HRI marquee.
