This burglar from Limerick was arrested after making the worst getaway imaginable

Paul Moore

Booze, taxis and theft.

A man who stole €10,000 worth of items from a house on the Ennis Road, Limerick has been sentenced to four years in prison with the final 12 months suspended after he implicated himself at the crime scene.

After stealing passports, jewellery, ornaments, medication, clothing, an iPhone, designer sunglasses and keys, the thief then asked a nearby neighbour to call a taxi so he could make his getaway.

Marcus Graham, 42, didn’t even have any money to pay the taxi fare. In lieu of payment, he offered the driver a bottle of booze that he had also stolen from the house, according to the Limerick Leader.

Unsurprisingly, the Gardaí were quick to make the arrest and when they questioned Graham about the stolen items, he said that they were “hand-me-downs from prison”.

Graham of Davin Gardens, Caherdavin, has 79 previous convictions to his name and pleaded guilty to the burglary this afternoon. The incident took place on August 1, 2015.

The prosecuting judge has backdated the three-year sentence to August 1 last year.
