WATCH: This UL student’s election campaign video is like nothing we’ve ever seen before

We don’t know what the hell just happened but we have to say we’re impressed.

Creating a promotional video that has the potential to go viral seems to be par for the course for candidates running for student elections in Irish colleges in recent years.

Lorcán Ó Maoileannaigh from NUI Galway and the legendary Tommy Bolger from the University of Limerick, for example, attracted plenty of kudos and attention for campaign videos based on well-known movies Trainspotting and The Wolf of Wall Street respectively.

Aoife O’Brien is currently running for Academic officer in the SU elections for UL and, as part of her campaign, has released a video that appears more suitable as a music video for a trippy dance band rather than for a student election campaign.

Made with the help of Conor Furlong and Dan Harrington, the video starts off with Aoife listing off some of her ambitions if elected as Academic officer while stood perilously close to a lake.

Out of nowhere, she’s suddenly pushed into the water by a male colleague and becomes the subject of a music video like something out of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper era.

While the video divulges little about what Aoife will bring to the job if elected (you can find out more on her Facebook page here), it has got plenty of attention, garnering over 100,000 views on Facebook in less than 24 hours

The University of Limerick Student Union elections take place this Thursday, March 23; for more information, check out the ULSU website.

Cheers to Conor Furlong for sending this our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to [email protected] or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
