Underdog on top of the world as rescued pooch climbs Mount Everest

A dog who was rescued from a dump has climbed his way right to the top, quite literally, by scaling Mount Everest

It was up, pup and away for this pooch, who started out life in a dump in India, but was rescued, nursed back to health by his owner, and then took on the hike to the top of Mount Everest.

It’s truly a fantastic tail, as owner Joanne Lefson found him quite literally down in the dumps in Ladakh, Northern India, but fed him boiled eggs and rice to get him back to full health and up to a normal weight. She named him Rupee, and he certainly has proven that he’s made of tough-fur stuff already before you even consider the arduous trek up to the top of Everest.

Lefson did consult a vet before trying to take him along, and he confirmed that he wouldn’t suffer from altitude sickness before the two scaled to 17,000 feet above sea level on their mission. Rupee became the first dog to have climbed Everest; impressive stuff which really gives us paws for thought about what we’ve achieved so far in life.

That’s right, as if we didn’t feel lazy enough today, now it seems that even dogs are climbing Everest while we sit on the couch. Not only that, but JOE is sitting here looking at our lazy, idle cat who would surely kill us if it could survive for even seven seconds alone in the wild, and ruing the day we decided against getting a dog instead. Not mutt-ch we can do about that now…

Anyway, you know why they call it Everest, don’t you? Because when you get to the top you have to ‘ave-a-rest. Eh? Eh? Ah forget it…
