Video: 12 last meals of America’s death row inmates

Henry Hargreaves’ iconic images tell a terrifying tale…

There’s a certain morbid curiosity that surrounds death row, especially in places like Ireland where corporal punishment is non-existent.

Having to think of your very last meal sounds like a terrifying experience, but that’s exactly what death row inmates have to do before their eventual death at the hands of prison officials.

Photo journalist Henry Hargreaves managed to capture the severity of the task with his series of photographs titled ‘No Seconds’, which itself is a pretty dark title when you think of it.

The photographs have recently been stitched together by BuzzFeed to create the video below.

While some inmates chose an elaborate last meal comprised of their fondest desires, others simply went for the plain option and one chose to eat nothing at all.

The idea of having to choose the very last thing you’re ever going to eat really is a frightening thought and it gives us an idea of just how menacing the death row inmates must have been to end up in that particular situation.

(Note: The video states that in 1977 a Massachusetts governor issued a statement on the death row inmates Ferdinando Nicola Sacco & Bartolomeo Vanzetti saying they had been unfairly tried and convicted. The case is still open).
