VIDEO: A short, powerful video about suicide to make you stop, think and talk

Tony Cuddihy

“We wanted to create a powerful piece of content that would ignite important conversation about suicide, the complex issues that surround it and what everyone can do to address it.”

Owen Sharp, the CEO of the Movember Foundation, address the issue of male suicide on World Suicide Prevention Day, Saturday 10 September.

The organisation has released a video called ‘Suicide notes talk too late’ and it’s incredibly powerful.

See for yourself.

The video features men sharing their own personal experience with suicide, and has a powerful but simple message, “Men, let’s talk when things get tough.”

The message at the centre of the clip is that too many men look to ‘tough it out,’ and that they are keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling alone with their issues.

“Conversations that we hope will save lives and prevent the far-reaching and painful consequences for the families, friends and communities of the men tragically lost every day. It’s an uncomfortable conversation, but it’s one that needs to be had, here in Ireland and around the world.”

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD), on 10 September, is organised by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). The purpose of the day is to raise awareness, globally, that suicide can be prevented.
