Video: A competition combining competitive fishing and competitive drinking in Belgium was as messy as you’d expect

Don’t expect this to become an Olympic sport anytime soon.

Don’t expect this to become an Olympic sport anytime soon.

Fishing and drinking are two pastimes that, as long as the necessary precautions are taken, can sometimes go well in tandem with one another; a nice relaxing day on a boat with a few beers on a sunny day is many anglers’ idea of heaven.

There was nothing heavenly when the two were combined recently in Outer in Belgium, however, where a competition took place which appeared to reward participants’ ability to catch fish and also their ability to put away as many beers as possible.

It was a tough day for one Andy T. AKA ‘The Black’, who, despite the fact that he reportedly ‘never drinks beer’, was going all out to lay his hands on the highly-coveted BOOZ trophy on the day. We don’t get to see whether Andy was actually awarded the trophy or not, but his efforts certainly took their toll.

The following day can’t have been too pretty for Andy, but we’re sure he’ll enter again next year, just for the halibut.
