VIDEO: Waterford family go to great lengths to dupe mother into thinking she won the Late Late competition

Conor Heneghan

As outraged as we are that they would do this to their own mother, this is quite funny.

Like many an Irish person, Bernie Glavin, from Cappoquin in Waterford, watches the Late Late Show every week.

She also enters the Late Late Show competition every week and like many of us who enter a competition or do the Lotto, she is convinced she’s going to win it every single time.

Armed with this knowledge, her family decided to play a little April Fools’ prank on Bernie last night, when €25,000 was up for grabs for the competition winner on the Late Late Show.

To help them out, they enlisted the help of their neighbour Tony, a cousin of Bernie’s, to pretend to be from RTE and to ring the house with the good news.

In an effort to be more convincing, Tony asked to speak to Bernie’s daughter Megan, who had actually entered the competition on Bernie’s behalf.

You can see for yourself how the phone call transpired below, but needless to say Bernie genuinely believed that the €25,000 was coming her way and that she was about to realise her dream by going on a trip to visit family in America.

Or at least she did for a few glorious seconds…

Well played Megan and company but after leading your mother on like that, you have a lot of making up to do.

Cheers to Megan Glavin for sending this our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102, [email protected] or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
