Video: Remember the car that Homer made in The Simpsons? Someone’s gone and built it. For realsies.

It had two bubble domes, the engine made a noise that sounded like the world was coming to an end and it had three horns that made the sound of "La Cucaracha". And now, it’s a real thing.

It may have bankrupted his half-brother Herb, but there are few fans of The Simpsons who wouldn’t have fancied a ride in ‘The Homer’, the car for the average American that Homer designed in one of the earlier seasons in The Simpsons. The fact that it didn’t actually exist prevented Simpsons fanatics from fulfilling that dream. Until now, that is.

Just in time for the annual 24 Hours of LeMons race in California this weekend, the lads at Porcubimmer Motors have recreated Homer’s monstrosity and although it doesn’t comply exactly to Homer’s quite exact specifications – it would be tough considering that cars have to be put together for $500 or less – it’s the same colour, it has a bubble dome, the horn plays the sound of “La Cucaracha” and in our favourite feature of all, it comes complete with ‘Bort’ license plates.
