WATCH: Referee forgets his whistle and has to use a harmonica instead
Classic.
With the Premier League season set to kick-off very soon, football fans will be getting an extra dose of drama with the addition of VAR to matches. Granted, the introduction of technology hasn't always made removed the element of controversy but it has led to some classic moments.
Case in point, Man City vs Spurs in the Champions League quarter-final but with the Premier League season about to begin, even the officials will be getting kitted out with some new gear to use.
However, we don't see these technological changes making their way down into the lower leagues anytime soon. In fact, at this rate, they'll be just happy to have a referee that has a whistle!
This was the case during a recent match in the Essex and Suffolk Border League when the man in black showed up without an important piece of his kit.
Thankfully, he channelled another an in black - Johnny Cash - because he had a harmonica nearby and decided to improvise.
Take a look.
THIS IS NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL AT ITS BEST 😂
When the referee is late so someone has to be ref for the first 5 minutes, but there is no whistle, but there is a harmonica. 😂😂😂@NonleagueS @NonLeagueCrowd @nonleagueFCTV @GrassRootGoals_ pic.twitter.com/z0TgcI4Jcg— Essex & Suffolk Border League (@E_SBorderLeague) August 1, 2019
