What to wear and what not to wear to Bulmers Forbidden Fruit this weekend

Alan Loughnane

It’s always a bit of a lottery whether or not it will rain…

Attending a festival in Ireland can often mean the very real possibility that you’ll spend your weekend ploughing through a mud bath with rain pelting down on you so hard, it hurts.

You never quite know what the weather is going to throw at you in Ireland, so it’s always best to hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Thankfully, this weekend isn’t promised too bad with scattered showers the order of the weekend and the Bank Holiday Monday.

In this guide, we’re going to break down some of the basic things you can wear to a festival, and the garments you should never wear under any circumstances.

But we do have faith in your ability to dress yourself at this stage. You know if it’s lashing rain in the morning, you’re going to want a rain jacket, boots and a poncho, but if things are looking a bit more promising, here are some things that could work…

Never wear: Low cut vests

Look, this should be pretty self-explanatory. If you wear one of these to a festival you’re going to look like an enormous douche, even if you think you’re muscly enough to pull off the look. On the whole, you’ll probably look like the member of a crap boyband.

They’re fine for wearing in your own time, just not to a festival… in Ireland.

Wear: A lazily stylish t-shirt

You can get any amount of these in Ireland. If you’re willing to pay a little bit extra, you can purchase some very trendy VANS t-shirts.

But, if you’re not willing to drop 30 to 40 quid on a t-shirt that may possibly get covered in muck anyway, then there’s plenty of other options for you out there.

Penneys, H&M and Zara to name but a few, have perfectly acceptable t-shirts ranging from the €10 mark upwards… you may even find some cheaper in Penneys.

Never wear: Flip flops

This should be self-explanatory but somehow we feel some people may need a reminder. Flip flops are not suitable attire to a festival. We live in Ireland! They’re barely suitable attire in this country at all.

Wear: A cool shirt

It doesn’t even have to be expensive. If you’re feeling a little bit more adventurous, you can go for a print shirt covered in bold and vivid graphics.

Above are two examples, available on ASOS (here and here) from New Look and the Brooklyn Supply Co, but you can certainly find equivalents in many Irish stores.

Wear: A light jacket

Let’s be real; we live in Ireland, so the threat of a rain shower is never far away. But don’t let the rain ruin your festival, a simple light jacket can do the job without leaving you a sweaty mess if the sun appears from behind the clouds.

A light windbreaker is a handy option which will keep you dry without the hassle of lugging a bulky jacket around with you.

Conservative colours like black, navy and khaki are your friends in this scenario, although if you think you can pullout something more adventurous, fire away.
