Colin Farrell has been offered the lead role in an upcoming remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1990 sci-fi flick Total Recall directed by Len Wiseman (Die Hard 4.0).

Unlike the original 1990 release, Variety reports this week that the Kurt Wimmer-scripted version of Total Recall looks to ‘contemporise’ the original Philip K. Dick story ‘We Can Remember it For You Wholesale,’ from which each versions were adapted.

The role would be something of a big-budget Hollywood comeback for Farrell, who has taken on a number of independent and European-funded films in recent years following the disappointing box office figures for his leading roles in Alexander and Miami Vice.

Len Wiseman would certainly be a divise choice of director. Having shot three Underworld films with his wife Kate Beckinsale, the director was handed the reins of Die Hard 4.0, believed to be the most sanitised version of Bruce Willis' most famous franchise. Wiseman was recently working in pre-production on a film version of videogame series Gears of War but it is believed that the project has broken down over budgetary issues.
