Tourism New Zealand Kaupapa director Trevor Maxwell watches the 'Smoking Cermony' being performed during the opening ceremony for Tourism New Zealand's Giant Rugby Ball at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay in Sydney, Australia. The Ball, which is held up by air and down by water and can fit 200 people inside, will be in situ until September 12 to promote the Rugby World Cup 2011 and New Zealand as a tourism destination.

In the last-ever episode of the Baltimore-set drama, Carcetti orders a cover-up after Daniels tells him that McNulty fabricated the serial killer story. Pearlman negotiates a deal with Levy, Haynes finds his concerns about Templeton falling on increasingly deaf ears, and Bubbles' life story appears in the paper. Marlo sells the connection to the Greeks back to the co-op and plans to become a legitimate businessman. Last in the series.

Mikhail Gorbachev became Soviet leader after the death of Konstantin Chernenko, Co Kerry schoolchildren claimed they saw a moving statue in their home town and Ireland won rugby union's Triple Crown. Other big news stories included the bombing of Air India Flight 182, killing all 329 passengers and crew on board, and riots at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels before the start of the European Cup Final, where 39 people died. Featuring hits by Eurythmics, U2, Simple Minds, the Cure and Paul Brady.
