The porn industry is in crisis after a performer working for one of the biggest production companies in the world tested positive for HIV.

The AIM (Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation), a clinic which runs mandatory tests on the estimated 1,200 porn performers working in the San Fernando Valley of southern California, made the discovery.

The identity of the performer has not yet been released, although the clinic is now tracking down and screening other performers who have worked with the infected individual.

Two of the world’s biggest porn studios, Vivid Entertainment and Wicked Pictures, have suspended filming.

Although the sex of the performer has not yet been released, a male performer, Darren James, was infected in 2004 and passed the virus onto three female performers.

Positive

While condom use increased in the industry after the Darren James incident, they have since slipped from use at many studios.

Wicked Pictures, however, requires actors to wear condoms. A statement from the company read, ‘Even though Wicked Pictures is condoms-mandatory, we have postponed our upcoming productions to give AIM a chance to create a comprehensive quarantine list.’
