13 incredible TV duos that you would really want to have a pint with

Which one is your favourite?

Paul Moore

Which one is your favourite?

I was at a wedding recently and a sudden thought occurred to me. Here I am in a room full of strangers, surrounded by lots of couples and I started to wonder, which people here would be the best craic?

We’ve all been around some unique pairings in our life but if you had to substitute any two people in your life for a TV duo then who would it be?

Here are some of my own favourite TV duos, what makes them work and why I’d go for a pint with them.

McNulty and Bunk from The Wire

Bunk McNulty

Why you need them in your life: If your mates just can’t find their drinking legs then these ‘strictly a suit and tie wearing motherf**kers’ are worth a call. They also have a knack for getting into some well meaning mischief, who can forget the moment when Bunk threw up in the middle of a briefing or McNulty’s efforts to drive home?

Their best moment: When your friend has had a bit too much to drink.

Charlie and Frank from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Charlie Frank

Why you need them in your life: The gruesome twosome are so close to each other that they can both bang ‘The Waitress’, poop the bed, speed-ball cat food and hang out naked in the sewer. Now that’s a fecked up friendship.

Their best moment: Their warped friendship in one clip.

Ted and Dougal from Father Ted

Why you need them in your life: Do we really need to explain this one?

Their best moment: Too many to chose from but this scene absolutely nails the dynamic between the two main characters from the best comedy of all-time.

Walter and Jesse from Breaking Bad

Why you need them in your life: When you combine all of their qualities, there’s enough talent, skill and brains here to run your own meth empire. Walter is intelligent, ambitious and ruthless while Jesse is brave, funny and tough. Yeah bitch!

It’s a shame that the two lads can’t get on though.

Their best moment: This is the Breaking Bad equivalent of telling your mate that you’ll have their back.

Sherlock and Watson from Sherlock

Why you need them in your life: Sherlock is like that friend who always drives you crazy but you still persevere with him because he has good qualities, just go to your mind palace and remind you of what they are.

If that fails, then just ask Watson. He’s also a good man to have around in a fight.

Their best moment: John’s stag night out.

GOB and Michael from Arrested Development

Why you need them in your life: If I had my way, I’d make Will Arnett narrate everything because he has the greatest voice ever. This being said, the dynamic between the brothers Bluth is so fecked up that you couldn’t help but be entertained by them.

Their best moment: They’re all good, all that’s missing is Tobias.

Arya and The Hound from Game of Thrones

aryahound

Why you need them in your life: We all have two friends that seem like they’re as mad as a box of badgers and with these two, you never know what you’re going to get. The Hound has some admirable qualities as a mate, he’s fair, loyal (to a certain degree) and calls a spade a spade.

Their best moment:Who doesn’t want these as mates?

Mike and Harvey from Suits

Suits Main Image

Why you need them in your life: We’ve all been in some tough spots before and who better to have in your corner than New York’s finest lawyers. Harvey’s record collection, drive and smooth-talking ways would probably mean that you won’t be queuing up outside any clubs while Mike’s eidetic memory might come in handy.

Their best moment: Sometimes getting stoned and working can be the same thing.

Harvey Suits

Rust and Marty from True Detective

Marty and Rust

Why you need them in your life: If you ever felt LIKE all of your mates were happily getting married, celebrating promotions or getting engaged then there’s no better people to have around to wreck their buzz than these two.

Those endless monologues from Rust will instantly make you feel like you’re smarter, even if you have no feckin’ idea what he’s talking about, while Marty is so unpredictable that you’ll never have a dull moment.

Their best moment: This car scene, just one of many.

True Detective S01E01

Mulder and Scully from The X-Files

mulderscully

Why you need them in your life: Everyone has friends that claim to have some amazing stories but these guys can top them. They have access to a whole level of freaky crap plus Mulder always had a bit of an ‘unexamined’ mad bastard streak in him.

Their best moment: I was always partial to this one.

Mac and Dennis from it’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Dennis Mac

Why you need them in your life: The second pairing from Paddy’s Pub in this list but we had to include them… because of the implication.

Word of warning though, if you’re in Dennis’ room then you’re always being filmed while Mac’s probably going to ask you about cultivating mass. Just don’t eat any apples when you’re around them.

Their best moment: Mac and Dennis break-up is one of the greatest comedy episodes that you’re likely to watch but this scene tells you everything that you need to know about the lads.

Turk and JD from Scrubs

JD

Why you need them in your life: Eeeeeeagle! Choco-bear and vanilla-bear are so close that they’re easily the most bromantic couple in TV, despite the fact that they’re both married.

Their best moment: Carla and Elliot will never understand.

Chandler and Joey from Friends

Chandler Joey Friends

Why you need them in your life: For everything.

Their best moment: So hard to choose but I’ve opted for this one.
