Warn your neighbours in advance because you're going to be screaming the house down in fright.
2022 has been killer for horror fans – we've jumped in our cinema seats to the likes of Nope and X and Scream and Smile, but if we were to pick a single scary movie that ranks as our favourite horror movie of the year, it has got to be... Barbarian.
When we reviewed the movie as it arrived in Irish cinemas on 28 October this year (just in time for Halloween), we called it not only the scariest movie of the year, but one of the best scary movies of the last few years.
As we also mentioned in that review, the less you know about it before watching it, the better. So, we'll go with the very basics for the plot:
Tess (Georgina Campbell) arrives at her Airbnb rental, only to discover there is already another lodger there, Keith (Bill Skarsgard). Since it is lashing rain outside and the house is in the middle of a dodgy part of Detroit, she agrees to take the bed, while he will sleep on the couch for the night, and they can sort out the accidental double-booking in the morning.
Some creaky sounds in the middle of the night set off a chain of events that... well, we won't go any further than that!
With a score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie made a decent $45 million at the global box office from a $4.5 million budget, and we're already very excited for what writer/director Zach Cregger does next.
But until then, Barbarian is available to watch on Disney+ right now.
Based on true events, this tense thriller puts a unique twist on a classic sub-genre. No Ordinary Heist, a new Irish crime thriller inspired by actual events, is available to watch in cinemas from this weekend. The movie follows two bank workers, manager Richard Murray (Eddie Marsan) and security guard Barry McKenna (Saipan’s Éanna Hardwicke), […]
