If you’re in the mood for something completely different this evening…
Released in cinemas here in February 2023, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On is something completely different to the norm. A sort-of-sequel to a series of very popular short films released in 2010 (if you’ve never seen them, you can watch the first one here), the movie involves a stop-motioned seashell and his adventures in our world.
The movie tells the story of Marcel (voiced by Jenny Slate of Parks & Rec fame), who happens to cross paths with a cash-strapped documentary maker (Dean Fleischer Camp, the director and co-writer of the movie) in an AirBnB he is sharing with his friends.
Deciding to tell Marcel’s story and he came to be separated from the rest of his shell community, the documentary puts them all in the spotlight, bringing new dangers, while also potentially giving the hope of being reunited with the rest of Marcel’s friends and family.

Upon arriving in cinemas, Marcel The Shell With Shoes On scored a massively impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, even going on to be nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Academy Awards (which it ultimately lost to Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio).
