Winterfell Crypts

Listen to JOE’s brand new GOT reaction show, The North Awaits, with Michael Fry & Carl Kinsella right here.

All Men Must Die.

When it comes to Game of Thrones, there’s nothing that the writers love more than an ominous bit of foreshadowing and the show has become such a phenomenon that even the most minuscule detail is obsessed over to the nth degree.

Long may it continue!

However, throughout the seven seasons of the show, certain bits of symmetry, callbacks, and foreshadows are more prominent than others.

Truth be told, there’s a million hints throughout the show but with regards to the upcoming Battle of Winterfell, the crypts of House Stark are heavily rumoured to feature in the episode.

Of course, if the Night King isn’t actually in The North, then the crypts become something of a non-entity but if he’s there, the Night King’s ability to resurrect the dead could be a massive factor.

As we saw in Hardhome, the leader of the army of the dead has the ability to revive the dead and turn them into mindless wights.

The crypts of Winterfell were heavily referenced in the promotional trailers for Season 8 – in thematic terms, it makes sense given the significance they hold for House Stark and Jon Snow’s lineage – but they could also play a role in the downfall of Westeros.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see but this supercut is very convincing proof that something bad is about to go down.

Then again, Game of Thrones has consistently subverted expectations, but the idea of women and children being ripped to shred by an army of zombie-esque wights is incredibly grim albeit perfectly suited to Game of Thrones.

Take a look at how ‘safe’ the crypts are.

As usual, Always Sunny holds the answer to everything.
