Here are the 5 best movies on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

riddick

Two of these are properly underappreciated gems.

Thursday night. Weekend is just over the horizon. We can do this, peeps! We just need to kill a few more hours til then, and movies are good ways to do that!

We review all of the new releases on the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, and some of those are already in cinemas, including The Hate U Give, and Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody:

If you are remaining glued to the couch, then here is what is on offer:

THURSDAY 25 OCTOBER

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – Syfy – 9.00pm

Angelina Jolie is perfect casting for the raider of tombs, with Daniel Craig, Iain Glen, and Jon Voight all giving decent support. But there is the issue that there appears to be that robot spider? And a plot that makes SFA sense. Still though, we got that sweet U2 track ‘Elevation’. That was kind of a banger, to be fair.

Riddick – Film Four – 9.00pm

The sequel to Pitch Black (and, we’re guessing, they’re pretending The Chronicles Of Riddick didn’t happen), with Vin Diesel isolated on a planet with killer aliens again. You might find some fun in the sheer OTT violence, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to the intense original.

Presumed Innocent – TCM – 9.00pm

A crafty, twisty legal thriller with Harrison Ford, Bonnie Bedelia and the late, great Raul Julia. The less you know about this underappreciated 1990 underappreciated gem, the better.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut – Comedy Central – 10.30pm

“BLAME CANADA!”

Nacho Libre – ITV4 – 11.30pm

Jack Black is a Mexican orphan worker who becomes a wrestler in order to raise enough money to save the children. From the same folks behind Napoleon Dynamite, it is just as eccentric as that movie was, and deserves another go around if you think you didn’t like it the first time.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
