Movies on TV

Operation Fanacht has resumed so you know you better be staying in tonight.

Thankfully, there are some good movies on TV to get you through this strange time – not least an Oscar-winning gangster flick, one of the best Rocky movies and a horror film (in case the times we live in aren’t horrifying enough for you).

I Love You, Beth Cooper – Comedy Central – 9pm

A pretty easy-going high-school comedy where teenagers profess their love for each other, fight, struggle to buy beer, cause a ruckus at a party and all the rest of it. Won’t change your life, may brighten your evening.

The Game – Sky Atlantic – 9pm

A movie from that era of cinema where scriptwriters kept making messed up things happen to Michael Douglas. Too many twists and turns to keep track of. Sean Penn is also there.

The Untouchables – ITV4 – 9pm

A classic true crime story, based on incorruptible federal agent Eliot Ness, who took on legendary Chicago gangster Al Capone. Directed by Brian de Palma (Scarface) and starring Kevin Costner, Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia and Sean Connery — who won an Oscar for his part in the film.

The Grudge 2 – SyFy – 10pm

Borrowed from a Japanese franchise (much like The Ring), The Grudge 2 was actual an original storyline that followed from its predecessor. There are a lot of jump-scares as Amber Tamblyn is haunted by a ghost that haunts and kills people in an endless cycle of horror.

Rocky IV – ITV4 – 11.35pm

Yeah, we know the Rocky films are on every night now, but they’re not actually getting any worse – especially for anyone out there who hasn’t seen them. This is the one where Rocky fights the Russian powerhouse Ivan Drago.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
