Here are the 5 best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Another night of bad weather. Sit in and watch one of these instead of going out.

Listen, we’re just going to have to face facts here, the weather is just going to keep being bad for the next while.

So you may as well keep checking in with JOE to see what the best movies to watch each night are, we will never steer you wrong.

That being said, tonight’s collection isn’t THE BEST, but there is still some entertainment to be had…

THURSDAY 8 NOVEMBER

The Goonies – TCM – 6.40pm

An absolute classic family movie (from back when family movies weren’t afraid to scare kids!), and still holds up fantastically well to this day. See how well you remember it with our quiz right here.

Volcano – Film Four – 6.45pm

Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche (remember her?) have to save LA when a volcano suddenly erupts at the tar pits… This is not a movie to be taken seriously, but it is a movie with A LOT of fun to be had.

Signs – Syfy – 10.00pm

Mel Gibson thinks there might be aliens in his corn-fields. This was the movie that began to derail M. Night Shyamalan after all the goodwill built up by The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, but really it comes down to that not great ending. Everything leading up to that – including some great performances by Joaquin Phoenix, Abigail Breslin, and Rory Culkin, not to mention that AMAZING scene at the kid’s birthday party – is actually kinda great.

Eraser – ITV4 – 11.15pm

“You’re luggage!” says Arnie, to a crocodile, in a zoo, that he just shot in the face. This was right in the middle of the action movies in his career when it really felt like he’d stopped caring, but there is still something about Eraser that makes it great to watch. And that something might be those awesome portable rail guns that help to blow up EVERYTHING.

Man On Fire – Film Four – 11.15pm

One of the greatest revenge epics of all time, we went in deep on Denzel Washington’s career, and this movie in particular, right here. All you need to know is that this is one of Tarantino’s favourite movies of recent years. It is full on, it is kick ass, and if you’ve never seen it, you need to rectify that tonight.
