Here are the 6 best movies on TV tonight

Some fantastic movies. And some okay movies that are fantastically easy to watch.

Did you look outside lately?

It is raining. A lot. And there is no sign of it easing up any time soon.

Best to just sit in and enjoy one of these instead.

TUESDAY 20 NOVEMBER

The Stag – RTE 2 – 9.00pm

A group of mates – including Andrew Scott, Brian Gleeson, and Hugh O’Conor – head off to the Irish countryside for a stag’s weekend. What begins as an irritating few nights in the cold and rain turns into the exactly what each of them needed to overcome their personal problems. This is, despite that description, a comedy. A perfectly serviceable comedy.

Goldeneye – ITV4 – 9.00pm

Brosnan’s first and best outing as Bond, with one of the best theme songs of all time (courtesy of Tina Turner’s smoky delivery and Bono’s songwriting abilities), and one of the best Bond villains too, courtesy of the legendary Sean Bean.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me – Comedy Central – 9.00pm

The second (and best?) outing for Mike Myers as the international man of mystery. As well as Doctor Evil. As well as Fat Bastard. This was also the one that introduced Heather Graham to the series, and sent Powers back to the swinging sixties, but now as a more woke modern man. Plus it looks like we might finally be getting that fourth Austin Powers movie!

Terminator: Salvation – Syfy – 9.00pm

The fourth (and fourth best?) film in the series suffers from having a wooden lead (sorry Sam Worthington, but you’re no Christian Bale), as well as Christian Bale who is clearly just there for the paycheque. That being said, there is still some great action scenes scattered throughout – that helicopter crash is epic – and at least they tried to do something different with the series, as opposed to just remaking the original (we’re looking at you, Genysis!).

16 Blocks – TCM – 11.10pm

Bruce Willis has to transport Mos Def from the police station to the courthouse, which is just (yep!) sixteen blocks away. However, some criminals and dodgy cops don’t want him to make it there, or he’ll give evidence that will expose them all, which turns New York City into something of a gauntlet. From the director of Lethal Weapon, it is… perfectly okay to watch.

Locke – FilmFour – 11.20pm

We go in deep on Tom Hardy’s most underrated movie right here.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
