Here are the 6 best movies on TV tonight

Not the usual mix of Ashley Judd-on-the-run thrillers tonight, that’s for sure!

Sometimes writing up the Best Movies On TV article requires some finesse, as some movies have a propensity of popping up regularly (we’re looking at you, Along Came A Spider!), and some even pop up more than once in the same week!

However, that isn’t the problem this evening, with a pretty decent mix of new(ish) arrivals…

MONDAY 30 SEPTEMBER

The River Wild – Film4 – 6.50pm

Meryl Streep and David Strathairn and their kids are on a family vacation, going rafting down a rapids-filled river, only to be raft-jacked (a word that applies to no other movie in existence) by Kevin Bacon and his gang of dangerous criminals.

Lethal Weapon 4 – ITV4 – 9pm

It starts with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover fighting a sort of Iron Man (seriously), and proceeds to get even more stupid after that, with Chris Rock and Jet Li joining an already over-stuffed cast. But still, it is never not fun to watch Riggs and Murtagh’s unique bromantic chemistry.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets – Film4 – 9pm

Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Rihanna star in this bonkers sci-fi action adventure about two renegades who are forced to save the universe. It has more visual set-pieces than plot, but should still be seen on the biggest, brightest TV screen you can find.

One Hour Photo – TG4 – 9.30pm

The other “Robin Williams is scary now” movie (so, not Insomnia), in which he plays a guy who works in a photo-development store, and begins to obsess about one of his customers. A properly unnerving psychological thriller.

Se7en – Sky One – 10pm

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman star in one of the greatest serial killer thrillers of all time, as they find themselves attempting to find and stop someone who is violently murdering his victims based on the seven deadly sins.

The Relic – Syfy – 10pm

Ridiculous but very funny monster movie in which a weird mutant man thing is let loose in a Chicago museum, and only a scientist (Penelope Ann Miller) and a cop (Tom Sizemore!) can stop it.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
