Happy Valentine’s Eve! Let us celebrate by watching stuff explode!

While we’re sure that Feb 14 will be filled with roms both com and just plain rom, V-Day-Eve seems to lean heavily the other way, with a lot of movies featuring things going BOOM!

And not in the romantic way. The other way.

WEDNESDAY 13 FEBRUARY

North By Northwest – TCM – 6.15pm

Alfred Hitchcock’s biggest blockbuster (if you can call it that?) sees Cary Grant mistaken for an international spy and he gets caught up in a world espionage, double crosses, and Eva Marie Saint’s potential femme fatale.

The Nutty Professor – Comedy Central – 8.00pm

Eddie Murphy is the professor who is madly in love with Jada Pinkett Smith, but when he tests out a drastic weight loss formula on himself, he practically invents a Doctor Jekyll / Mister Hyde scenario.

Deepwater Horizon – FilmFour – 9.00pm

The true story of an oil-rig that suffers a catastrophic disaster, and everyone on board must fight for their survival and find a way to get off safely. Action epic starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson, and John Malkovich.

Crimson Tide – ITV4 – 9.00pm

Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman argue tensely in a submarine over the fate of the potential beginning of World War Three between the US and Russia. Apparently features a script-sheen by none other than Quentin Tarantino.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – FilmFour – 11.10pm

See, if you take the letters from each word, then you get WTF. See how clever! The movie itself deals with a bored reported (Tina Fey) who decides to shake up her life by taking on a very dangerous assignment in war-torn Afghanistan. Margot Robbie, Billy Bob Thornton, and Martin Freeman co-star in the very busy comedy.

Total Recall – ITV4 – 11.20pm

The original Arnie version, where he (maybe?) plays a husband to Sharon Stone, who (maybe?) is actually an interplanetary spy who (maybe?) had his memory wiped by the big bad guys so they can (maybe?) keep Mars from having breathable air. Maybe. Doesn’t really matter, this is all about the bonkers sci-fi action!

Eagle Eye – BBC One – 12.10am

Shia LeBeouf (remember him?) gets caught up in a government conspiracy with Michelle Monaghan (remember her?), which seems to be able to track their every move. It is a fantastic set-up with a somewhat awful payoff, but… seriously, that set-up is pretty fantastic!

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
