THURSDAY 30 JANUARY

Everest – FilmFour – 6.45pm

An all-star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Keira Knightley, Robin Wright and loads more star in this incredibly tense take on the true story of the most fatal day on the mountain trail, when several climbers were killed during a storm on the world’s tallest mountain in 1996.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One – E4 – 9pm

The set-up for Part Two’s action climax still has some very memorable set pieces, but if you’re not all caught up with what has come before in The Hunger Games series, then this movie is probably the absolute worst one to try to watch as a standalone.

Dumb and Dumber – Comedy Central – 9pm

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are two best friends who decide to travel across America in order to get a suitcase back to its rightful owner. The plot doesn’t really matter though, not when hanging out with these two is so damned funny.

Insidious – Horror Channel – 9pm

Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne begin to suspect that their home might be haunted by an evil presence, but they soon discover that it is actually their young son who has become the new home to a powerful presence.

Snowpiercer – FilmFour – 9pm

In the run-up to the release of modern classic Parasite, that same director was also behind this visionary sci-fi action-thriller set on a non-stop train that travels around the world, which is in the depths of a new ice age. Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell and more star in this truly unique blockbuster.

Revolutionary Road – BBC Four – 10pm

Titanic lovers Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett reunite in this powerful drama about a married couple who begin to find some deep cracks in their marriage. Directed by Sam Mendes, who is currently front-runner to win Best Director at this year’s Oscars for 1917.

Cliffhanger – ITV4 – 11.15pm

Sly Stallone stars in, essentially, Die Hard On A Mountain. It has one of the best opening scenes in any action movie, ever.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
