Here are the 7 best movies on TV today

Rory Cashin

twister

A very decent mix on the small screen!

Did you have a nice weekend?

We hope you did.

You know what would make a nice little relaxing cherry on top of a nice weekend?

A good movie.

You could head to the cinema and check out one of the new releases (we reviewed them all here), or you could sit in and watch one of these instead:

SUNDAY 14 JULY

Twister – ITV2 – 4.15pm

Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt are two professional storm-chasers, in the midst of a divorce, but get caught up in chasing down some of the biggest tornadoes to hit mainland America. A fun disaster movie, with flying cows!

The Lost World: Jurassic Park – ITV2 – 6.25pm

The obviously-not-as-good-as-the-original, but there is still that scene with the two T-Rexes sending the van over the edge of the cliff, and another great scene with the Velociraptors hunting in tall grass. Whether you can abide the attack on San Diego at the end depends on how much fun you’re willing to have in the face of any kind of realism.

The Man From UNCLE – Comedy Central – 9pm

Henry Cavill is the UK special agent, forced to work with Armie Hammer’s Russian spy, in order to take down a nefarious villain in this better-than-you’d-heard ’60s action-thriller-comedy.

London Has Fallen – RTE One – 9.30pm

After saving the President from an attacked White House in the original, Gerard Butler is back to save him again, this time from a series of terrorists who are turning London into a hunting ground. Not as good as Olympus, but worth catching before Angel Has Fallen is released later this year.

Executive Decision – TCM – 11.05pm

Steven Seagal and Kurt Russell team-up to board a plane full of terrorists, mid-flight no less!, and with the help of air-hostess Halle Berry, they try to take the bad guys out one-by-one. An early-in-the-movie twist gives the whole thing a brilliant breath of fresh air.

Apollo 13 – ITV4 – 11.05pm

A two-time Oscar-winning disaster-biopic, telling the story of three astronauts – Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton – who find themselves in a completely non-functioning shuttle, with no real way of making their way back to Earth in one piece.

Jane Got A Gun – Channel 4 – 12.15am

Natalie Portman is a wife in the old wild west, and when her husband comes home filled with bullets, she is forced to look for help from an old flame (Joel Edgerton), before a leader (Ewan McGregor) of a local group of thugs arrives to finish the job.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
