Here are the 8 best movies on TV today

A pretty fantastic mix of flix on tonight, it must be said.

This has been A WEEK, hasn’t it? A very busy week for some, especially if you happen to be fans of 90s pop music.

So maybe you want to take it easy this weekend? Save your money up for your next big night out?

In which case, we suggest either heading to the cinema (there are THREE new releases this weekend, all worth watching, and we review them all right here), or staying couch-bound and watching one of these instead:

SATURDAY 25 MAY

Inside Out – BBC One – 5.45pm

Arguably Pixar’s masterpiece (although just about every Pixar movie could make that argument), as we delve into the mind of a teenager, and the emotions in there who are doing their best to keep everything running smoothly during a big move. Hilarious, heartbreaking, and staggeringly intelligent.

Big Hero Six – RTE One – 6.35pm

Disney take on a Marvel property on their own terms, giving us this action-packed and at times very funny comic book adaptation, which gave us Baymax, quite possibly the most huggable character to ever be created in cinema.

The Italian Job – Sky One – 9.00pm

The remake of the car chase classic has a killer cast – Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Jason Statham, Donald Sutherland, Seth Green, Mos Def – and is a lot of fun, even if it more-than-a-little-bit dumb.

3:10 To Yuma – TCM – 9.00pm

Another remake, but a much better one, as Russell Crowe and Christian Bale go head-to-head in this gritty western.

A Walk Among The Tombstones – RTE Two – 9.25pm

Liam Neeson is a private investigator, and he is hired by drug runner Dan Stevens to look into the murder of his wife, but, as is always the case with these things, nothing is what it seems. A decent, dark action-thriller.

Borat – Comedy Central – 10.00pm

It has been THIRTEEN YEARS since “My wife!” was quoted by, literally, everyone in the world. We wonder how well the comedy holds up in a more “woke” society? Only one way to find out…

Magic Mike – TG4 – 10.10pm

Handsome, buff men take their clothes off for money. What else do you need to know?

The Usual Suspects – RTE One – 12.10am

The one-two punch of the involvement of Bryan Singer AND Kevin Spacey may have ruined this movie forever for some folk, but if you can successfully separate art from the artist(s), then you’ll find one of the best psychological thrillers of all time right here.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
