Our movie pick tonight (Sunday, October 5) is Anthropoid, the 2016 historical war thriller.

Starring Jamie Dornan and Cillian Murphy, the film is far from a run‑of‑the‑mill war drama.

Directed by Sean Ellis, the WWII drama sees the pair of Irish actors playing Czech resistance fighters parachuted into Nazi-occupied Prague with a mission that’s as dangerous as it sounds - assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich, one of Hitler’s top men and the architect of the Final Solution.

From whispered meetings in dusty safe houses to the constant threat of betrayal, Anthropoid is a slow burner with the tension building until nail-biting final act; a siege in a church crypt.

The film is shot largely in handheld, on Super16mm film to impart texture and grit, making the film feel even more visceral.

Not your typical Saturday-night popcorn stuff, but a smart, sharp and unflinchingly real story.

Anthropoid is on RTÉ2 tonight at 9.30pm.
