An acclaimed sci-fi drama is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It stars Brad Pitt as an astronaut who ventures into space in search of his lost father.

While people are most likely spending their Saturday afternoon enjoying the warm weather, they may be seeking movie options for when the sun sets.

In keeping with that, JOE recommended a few particular ones to watch over the weekend in the video below.

However, for more options, here are the films on telly this Saturday evening (16 July).

Ad Astra – Channel 4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight, this 2019 sci-fi follows an astronaut (Brad Pitt) in the near future who travels to the outer edge of the solar system.

This is to uncover the truth about his missing father (Tommy Lee Jones) and the latter’s doomed expedition that now, 30 years later, threatens the universe.

Ad Astra contains moments of jaw-dropping blockbuster spectacle, including a thrilling chase sequence involving pirates on the moon.

That said, it is quieter and more introspective than a lot of movies costing around $100 million to make, using its sci-fi premise mostly as a way to tell a story about a man damaged by the actions of his dad.

Though its somber tone may put some viewers off, if you can get on its wavelength, Ad Astra is one of the most beautiful-looking, emotional and oddly hopeful films put out by Hollywood in recent years.
