“Someone is responsible… I know it’s not me.”

Alec Baldwin has said he does not feel guilt over the fatal film-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and questioned where the live round came from that ended up in the prop gun.

Baldwin said he did not pull the trigger on the gun and instead cocked the hammer, at which point the gun went off.

“I feel that someone is responsible for what happened and I can’t say who that is. But I know it’s not me,” the US actor told ABC in his first major interview since the tragedy in October.

“I mean, I honest to God, if I felt that I was responsible, I might have killed myself,” he told George Stephanopoulos of ABC News.

The interview was broadcast in the US on Thursday evening with Baldwin getting emotional numerous times during the course of it.

“I don’t know what happened on that set. I don’t know how that bullet arrived in that gun. I don’t know,” Baldwin said.

“But I’m all for doing anything that will take us to a place where this is less likely to happen again.”

Baldwin said that he had chosen to speak out as the criminal investigations and civil lawsuits surrounding the shooting in New Mexico would take a long time to conclude and he didn’t feel like he could wait for that “process to end”.

He said he “would go to any lengths to undo what happened” but stated it was important people didn’t see him as a victim, “because we have two victims here”, speaking about Hutchins and the film’s director Joel Souza, who was also injured in the incident.
