Amazon Prime Video are kicking off May in style, movies-wise.

Loads and loads (and LOADS) of new additions to the Amazon Prime Video movie library this week.

AMERICAN GANGSTER

Ridley Scott directs Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in this very entertaining story based on a real-life criminal who inspired fear in his city for decades.

BASIC INSTINCT

The movie that shot Sharon Stone into the superstardom, playing a murder suspect who gets romantically linked with the detective (Michael Douglas) who is working the case.

BLOODSHOT

A very dumb Vin Diesel action movie, where he has magic blood that can withstand pretty much any kind of punishment. Having said that, it is still a small amount of fun.

THE COMMUTER

One of the many “Liam Neeson on a form of transport” action thrillers, this time on a New York subway train, where he has been forced to kill a fellow passenger or his own family will be murdered. Decent enough.

THE DANISH GIRL

Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander star in this emotional true-story about a married couple and the unique issues they face when one of them decides to go through one of the world’s first ever sex change operations.

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL

Jason Segel has been dumped by his girlfriend (Kristen Bell), so he decides to spoil himself with a fancy holiday… only to discover she’s there too, with her new boyfriend (Russell Brand). Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, Mila Kunis and more fill out the full supporting cast.

GET HIM TO THE GREEK

The semi-sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall focuses on Brand’s rock star character, and the living hell he puts his new assistant (Jonah Hill) through on a daily basis.

THE GOONIES

One of the most iconic family friendly movies of all time.

HACKERS

Maybe the single most 90s movie to ever exist.

I AM LEGEND

There is a sequel on the way, so why not (re)visit the Will Smith action-horror original.

IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT

This legendary 1967 movie sees a police detective (Sidney Poitier) investigate the murder of a businessman in Mississippi, only to be met with the harsh racism of the south.

THE ISLAND

Michael Bay directs this incredibly stupid but absolutely HUGE sci-fi action thriller with Scar-Jo and Ewan McGregor on the run from their cloning creators.

IT’S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD

An all-star action comedy, a group of drivers discover the location of hidden loot so they all set off separately to be the first to make it there and keep the prize for themselves. Madness ensues.

JOHNNY MNEMONIC

Keanu Reeves stars in this very, very bad action sci-fi thriller, which he would redeem himself for pretty soon afterwards with The Matrix.

KING KONG

After making The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, director Peter Jackson was given carte blanche to make whatever he wanted next. He went with this monster movie remake, which is WAY too long, but still pretty good.

KING OF NEW YORK

Christopher Walken stars in this dark crime drama about a drug kingpin released from prison and attempting to reclaim control of the criminal activities in his city.

THE LONG GOODBYE

A brilliant crime drama, in which a detective (Elliott Gould) tries to help his friend out of a tight spot, but ends up becoming implicated in his wife’s murder.

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

The Denzel Washington-Chris Pratt fronted remake. It isn’t great.

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki and Hugh Grant star in this very entertaining spy caper.

A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST

The creator of Family Guy tries his hand at live-action comedy, bringing down Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson with his unfunny antics in the process.

MR. BROOKS

Kevin Costner stars in this dark crime thriller about a respected businessman who is finding it increasingly difficult to hide his psychopathic, serial killer alter ego.

PREY FOR THE DEVIL

A very bad 2022 horror movie. Avoid.

ROBOCOP

The remake, not the original, but still pretty good, if we’re being honest.

ROLE MODELS

Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott star in this very funny comedy about two friends forced to take part in the Big Brother program as part of their court-appointed community service.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE

This is an enjoyable romantic comedy about Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) falling in love with his muse (Gwyneth Paltrow), but it did not deserve to beat Saving Private Ryan or The Thin Red Line for the Best Picture Oscar.

SMALL SOLDIERS

The director of Gremlins brings chaos to small town America again, when a collection of new soldier toys are given high-end microchips, causing them to become sentient and try to destroy everything they see.

SMOKIN’ ACES

An all-star cast (Chris Pine, Ray Liotta, Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Alicia Keys, Jeremy Piven, Andy Garcia) star in this entertaining tale of a group of killers in Las Vegas all trying to take out the same target.

SPECIES

An alien lands on Earth and attempts to mate with a human so it can… have alien babies? An incredibly idiotic sci-fi horror, but the first one is fun despite itself. Amazon Prime Video has also added its THREE sequels, but we suggest avoiding all of those.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON

The brilliant story behind the rise of the NWA and how they massively influenced the future of hip hop.

THIEF

Legendary director Michael Mann’s first cinematic outing is this incredibly tense story of a safe cracker (James Caan) wanting to do one final job before going straight.

THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR

The original version of this sexy heist movie, with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.

TRAINING DAY

Denzel Washington won the Best Actor Oscar for his fierce portrayal of an out-of-control LA cop in this fantastic crime thriller.

WEST SIDE STORY

Another original version, this musical is widely considered to be one of the best ever made.

WILD CHILD

Emma Roberts headlines this enjoyable teen comedy set in a stuffy British boarding school.
