Audio: Eoghan McDermott pranks Clíona Ní Chíosain on 2FM by pretending to ring Hozier live on air

Cliona eventually copped what was going on but the few minutes before she did made for awkward but hilarious radio.

Everyone in Ireland is delighted for the amount of deserved success and recognition that the incredibly talented Hozier has been having of late, but it hasn’t appeared to have had too much of an effect on the Wicklow native, who’s been grounded and very humble in all of his media appearances to date.

With that in mind, Clíona Ní Chíosain, who co-presents a bi-lingual show with Eoghan McDermott on 2FM on Sunday evenings from 8-10 and is the star of Aifric on TG4, must have got quite a shock last night when herself and Eoghan chatted to Hozier live on air and he started boasting about his recent TV appearances and the amount of hits that songs like Take Me To Church have attracted on YouTube.

Those who have heard Hozier speak will have soon realised that it wasn’t in fact Hozier (it was 2FM’s Cormac Battle) but it took Cliona a while to figure it out; she probably cottoned on to what was going on in and around the time ‘Hozier’ brazenly tried to ask her out despite the fact that Cliona had admitted that she had a boyfriend.

How Eoghan and Cormac managed to hold it together without laughing is beyond us and while Cliona might have realised that there was something fishy going on, she was too polite to admit it before the call was over.

When the game was up, she let loose on her scheming co-presenter but was able to have a laugh at herself as well; it was all harmless stuff really but very funny at the same time; Cliona won’t be falling into this kind of trap in future that’s for sure.

Hat-tip to JJ Hartigan and the folks at 2FM for sending this one our way
