“Absolutely dead.” So there’s no chance of him coming back at all then?
If you didn’t already heed the spoiler alert then stop reading now but for Game of Thrones fans up to date with the show, some bad news emerged last night.
Michael Ellenberg, executive vice president of programming at HBO, told a Convention Centre in Edinburgh last night that there was no chance that Jon Snow would return following his merciless death at the hands of his brothers in the Night’s Watch in the final episode of Season Five.
A number of fan theories, coupled with the recent appearance of Kit Harrington in Belfast, gave rise to hopes of a return for Ned Stark’s bastard in Season Six, but Ellenberg put paid to those hopes last night.

Various versions of the exact words used by Ellenberg appeared on Twitter last night, from “definitely dead” to “absolutely dead” to “100% dead” but the key point to take from the night is that Snow is, in fact, dead.
Another character thought to be dead following the Season Five finale, Stannis Baratheon, might not be dead after all after George R R Martin confirmed as much in his Live Journal this week.
At this stage, however, the books and the TV show have taken different paths so we’ll have to wait until the next season to see whether or not Stannis makes it.
Just to reiterate, in case we didn’t make ourselves clear earlier, Jon Snow is dead. Definitely dead.
