11th May 2019

Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin are all hitting Irish cinemas this month

It is to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Caped Crusader.

The Caped Crusader first appeared in Detective Comics (that is what DC stands for, fact fans) back in early 1939, so, yep, Bruce Wayne is getting on.

But just like any good guy worth his salt, there is no keeping him down.

We’ve had plenty of Hollywood hunks take on the cowl and cape, but to many, the ultimate version of the character was played by Michael Keaton, when he took on Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny DeVito, and Christopher Walken in his first two movies.

After that, we got Val Kilmer’s pretty decent go of it, but he, Nicole Kidman, and Tommy Lee Jones were all acted off the screen by Jim Carrey’s once-in-a-lifetime performance.

Then there was George Clooney, the only Batman not to get top billing in his own movie, losing that spot to Arnie and his ice puns, and sharing screen space with Uma Thurman, Chris O’Donnell, and Alicia Silverstone. It was… not a good a movie. But it was SUCH a not good that it came right back around to being one of the greatest not-good-movies of all time.

They all have their own specific reasons to be revisited, which is good news for us movie-lovers, because all four of those Batman movies are getting a limited re-release on the big screen around Ireland, beginning Friday 17 May.

Here are the participating cinemas you can find Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin on in:

·      Dublin Stella Rathmines

·      Dublin The Light House

·      Dublin Cineworld

·      Dublin VUE

·      Ashbourne VUE

·      Limerick VUE

·      Belfast Odyssey

On top of that, from Monday 3 June, all four movies have been remastered and will be released in 4K UHD for the first time, so you can enjoy them at all at home as often as you like!
