The BBC has apologised to viewers over the cancelled episodes of Top Gear arising from Jeremy Clarkson’s suspension.

According to The Guardian, four members of the Ward family from Leeds were staying at Simonstone Hall earlier this week and were shocked at Clarkson’s outburst at Tymon.

Nothing to eat

The incident is said to have taken place when there was no food made available to the Top Gear cast and crew.

“He [Clarkson] said he hadn’t done his job properly, it was ridiculous that there was nothing to eat – obviously there were lots of expletives in between all this – and that he would be losing his job, he would see to it that he would lose his job,” Sue Ward told Sky News.

Denise Ward added: “Just the shock of how can someone be so rude. It was just the swearing and the length of time and this poor guy he was ripping into.”

Bob Ward said Clarkson – as well as co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May – arrived at the hotel at 9.30pm and would not have his picture taken with him.

“I said ‘Any chance of a selfie Jeremy?’ and he said ‘No, not with the day I’ve had today’.”

Feedback

The BBC “received a wide range of feedback about this and some people have expressed their disappointment or have asked for more information,” according to a statement.

It continued: “We do hope you’ll understand that we value this reaction, but the investigation is still under way. Until more is known, we’re therefore unable to say anything further in response and will not yet be making further statements about the issue.

“We realise you’ll be disappointed that we can’t respond to you in any more detail but thank you for contacting us.”

Clarkson is expected to write about the incident – in which he reportedly got involved in a fracas with a producer – in his Sun column this weekend.
