Movies on tv

There’s plenty to get stuck into tonight.

It’s the Saturday after the Late Late Toy Show. Our emotions are still too high after it all.

To help, we’ve picked the best films on TV tonight.

Groundhog Day – 18:40 on Sony Movies

“Then put your little hand in mine…”

The Santa Clause – 18:45 on RTÉ 1

Tim Allen experiences festive high jinks when he assumes the job of Jolly Auld Saint Nick.  A beloved Christmas film for some.

Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment – 19:10 on ITV4

It’s their first assignment. You know the craic in this comedy that won 7,237 Oscars.

Sherlock Holmes- 19:35 on ITV2

Guy Ritchie reinvents the beloved sleuth with bare-knuckle boxing, wild action, and gothic mystery. It’s good.

The Holiday – RTÉ2 at 21:30

Soppy, cheesy, Christmassy rom-com that does exactly what you’d expect.

The second beloved Christmas for some that’s on TV today.

The Expendable 2 – 21:00 on Virgin Media 2

GUUUUUUNS!

RED 2 – 21:00 on Channel 4

The second one.

Ted 2 – 21:00 on E4

Ted goes to court. Not even close to being as funny as the first film but has a few laughs.

Spider-Man – 21:00 on SyFy

A very good comic-book film.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice – 21:00 on Sky

A very bad comic-book film.

Martha. That is all.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – 21:00 on Channel 4

The one where Tom Cruise hangs off a plane.

Days of Thunder  – 21:oo on Sony Movies

The one where Tom Cruise drives a fast car around and around a NASCAR track.

Cliffhanger – 22:00 on ITV4

A botched mid-air heist results in suitcases full of cash being searched for by various groups throughout the Rocky Mountains. Stallone doing bonkers stuff.

The Descent – 22:50 on Film 4

Excellent horror in which a group of friends go cave diving and get picked off by mysterious beasts. Claustrophobic and tense as hell.

Borat – 23:15 on Comedy Central

Borat: What kind of dog is this?

Zookeeper: It’s a tortoise.

Borat: Is it a cat in a hat?

Zookeeper: No… it’s a tortoise in a shell.

Deadpan genius.
