One of the better horror reboots is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It’s a perfect watch ahead of Halloween.

It is Saturday, meaning you should have more time to kick back, relax and enjoy some good movies and TV shows.

In keeping with that, JOE recommended three new things people can check out over the weekend in the video below.

However, if you still need more options, here are the films on TV tonight.

Kingsman: The Secret Service – Channel 4 – 9pm

The very solid first entry in the action spy franchise.

Scream – Sky Showcase – 9pm

One of the best slashers of all time.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery – Comedy Central – 9pm

“Groovy, baby!”

2012 – Film4 – 9pm

From king of disaster films Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow), 2012 centres on a frustrated writer (John Cusack) struggling to keep his family alive after a series of global catastrophes threatens to annihilate mankind.

USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Nicolas Cage stars in this World War II-set disaster film based on true events.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters – RTÉ2 – 9.50pm

In this action-packed, if bloated sequel, humans must rely on Godzilla when a gang of other massive monsters awaken to destroy the world.

Halloween (2018) – TG4 – 10pm

Our pick for tonight is this reboot of the Halloween franchise, which serves as a direct sequel to the 1978 original, disregarding all the other previous films in the series.

The story sees the masked madman Michael Myers escape a psychiatric hospital 40 years after attacking Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and killing many of her friends. This time, however, she is ready for him.

One of the best Halloween sequels – although we do have a soft spot for Halloween III: Season of the Witch – this 2018 reboot showed the slasher franchise still had plenty to offer fans thanks to its great cast, genuinely suspenseful sequences and moments of dark comedy.

Dumb and Dumber To – Comedy Central – 11pm

Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey return in this buddy comedy sequel JOE previously called “truly awful”.

Halloween (1978) – Channel 4 – 11.35pm

Given we have recommended this plenty of times before, we went with the 2018 Halloween reboot as our pick for tonight.

That said, if you’ve never seen this 1978 original, now is the time to rectify that.

Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid – Turner Classic Movies – 11.45pm

James Coburn and Kris Kristofferson star in this legendary revisionist Western from filmmaker Sam Peckinpah.

The Exorcist – BBC Two – 11.55pm

Another one of the best horror movies of all time.
