Movies on TV

Doesn’t look like we’re getting a summer this year, does it?

July is well and truly underway, but things are as drizzly, dreary and wet as ever outside. Fortunately, tonight’s selection of movies has some very solid options, so the outside world can take a hike.

Life of Pi – FilmFour – 6.35pm

Ang Lee won the Best Director Oscar for this adaptation of Yann Martel’s book, about a young man who gets trapped on a boat with a tiger, adrift at sea.

The Longest Yard – Virgin Media One – 9pm

A good Adam Sandler film, where he ends up in prison and coaching the prison football team. Also stars Chris Rock.

Inbetweeners 2 – E4 – 9pm

You know what you’re getting. Side-splitting comedy from the lads.

Judge Dredd – Sky One – 9pm

Sylvester Stallone plays a super-cop in a post-apocalyptic world where he has to kill his way out of a bunch of situations to save his own life. Action action action.

50 First Dates – Comedy Central – 10pm

Sweet little romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, who plays a woman with short-term memory loss. One of the more cheerful romance films about amnesia.

Funny People – Sky Comedy – 10.10pm

An underrated Sandler film, directed by Judd Apatow. Sees him as a struggling comedian, striking up a friendship with young comedian Seth Rogen.

Thelma & Louise – Channel 5 – 11.05pm

Two gals out for some fun end up on the lam after they kill a man in self-defence. Starring Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
