Here are the best movies on TV today

Alan Loughnane

It’s Thursday.

For the second day in a row, there are no movies on Irish channels so we must venture further afield for some selections.

But fear not, there’s still a movie or two worth checking out.

Here’s the best of what’s on.

Congo – Film4 – 6.55pm

Scientists land in the jungle and end up fighting intelligent apes. Most of the reviews state it’s a bit of fun as long as you don’t take it seriously.

Bowfinger – Sky Comedy – 9pm

A movie producer decides to secretly shoot a movie around an actor after failing to entice him for a role. Less sinister than it sounds and Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy star.

Bridget Jones’s Baby – Comedy Central – 9pm

The third instalment and much better than the second.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople – Film4 – 9pm

Previously described by JOE as the best comedy of the last five years.

At the time of its release, JOE hailed it as one of the best films of the year.

To sum up; it’s the one to watch tonight.

Collision Earth – SyFy – 10pm

Van Helsing – ITV4 – 10.05pm

Was scared to watch this movie when I was younger. Watched it recently and can confirm it’s not that scary.

Put the over/under of closing your eyes in fear at one.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
