For those that fancy starting their weekend with a film…

With no new Graham Norton Show taking place this evening – they’re showing highlights from this season – The Late Late Show has a clear run of things this Friday evening and with Roy Keane on the couch, it’s bound to be good.

However, the Manchester United and Ireland icon might not be everyone’s cup of tea but we know who is, Denzel Washington.

Why? Well, he’s Denzel. Enough said.

Lo and behold, the Oscar-winner is on your screen tonight along with these other films…

Back to the Future – 6.45pm on Film4

Great Scott!

Gremlins – TCM at 6.50pm

A family film that features a granny being thrown out a window and someone being killed via blender. Ah, the ’80s. A simpler time when kids films were really, really dark.

From Russia with Love – 8pm on ITV4

Bond falls into an assassination plot involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Vintage Connery.

Man on Fire – 9pm on Dave

“I’m gonna take your family apart piece by piece, you understand me? Piece by piece.”

Denzel. Is. God.

Arrival – 9pm

Ever hear the adage that great sci-fi isn’t really about science, space, or fiction at all, it’s about real problems and the nature of humanity? Well, Denis Villeneuve’s superb film is the proof of that statement.

Rocky V – 10.30pm RTÉ2

As Bart Simpson once said: “Where have you seen Roman numerals before? I know…Rocky V [“vee”]! That was the fifth one. So, Rocky five plus Rocky two equals…Rocky VII! Adrian’s Revenge”

On a more serious note, this is the film where Rocky takes on a new protege who betrays him, as the champ’s son must adjust to his family’s new life after bankruptcy.

In the Heat of the Night – 23.45pm on BBC1

The superb drama won five Oscars as Sidney Poitier plays a police detective that’s asked to investigate a murder in a racially hostile southern town. A classic.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
