A big sci-fi blockbuster is among the movies on TV tonight

It saw Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise re-team to adapt another sci-fi story.

Looking for something good to watch to kick off the weekend in style.

Well, Amazon Prime Video has just quietly added 18 big movies to its library.

However, if none of these suit you, here are the films airing on TV this Friday evening.

War of the Worlds – E4 – 9pm

Our pick for tonight follows an American dock worker (Tom Cruise, reteaming with director Steven Spielberg three years after Minority Report) trying to protect his children when aliens invade Earth and devastate cities with giant war machines.

An adaptation of H.G. Wells’ classic novel for the modern era, War of the Worlds effectively blends thrilling blockbuster spectacle with a dark tale of ordinary people struggling to survive amid the spectre of human extinction.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – Film4 – 9pm

Spielberg directs again.

With the new Indiana Jones film set for release next year, what better time is there to revisit this divisive fourth entry in the franchise?

The Hitman’s Bodyguard – Virgin Media One – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson do their thing in this watchable if forgettable action comedy.

American Pie: Reunion – Comedy Central – 9pm

The last in the sex comedy franchise to get a cinema release.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

A fun and stylish movie adaptation of the old spy series from director Guy Ritchie.

The Missouri Breaks – TG4 – 9.05pm

The Western with Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando that Rufus Sewell’s character struggled to remember the name of in M. Night Shyamalan flick Old.

The Informer – RTÉ2 – 9.40pm

Joel Kinnaman plays an ex-convict working undercover in this twisty crime thriller.

Pay the Ghost – Horror Xtra – 10.55pm

Nicolas Cage stars in this supernatural horror about a professor frantically searching for his son who was abducted during a Halloween carnival.

Last Action Hero – Film4 – 11.20pm

An underrated ’90s action-comedy starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Get Carter – Turner Classic Movies – 11.25pm

This great and gritty ’70s crime thriller sees cold-blooded London gangster Jack Carter (Michael Caine) travel to Newcastle to investigate after his brother dies under mysterious circumstances.

Little Fockers – RTÉ One – 11.30pm

The third and worst entry in the Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro cringe comedy trilogy.
