A fan favourite from the original Star Wars Trilogy is finally confirmed to be returning for 2019’s Episode IX

This is some good news, baby!

While the general reaction to SOLO didn’t exactly set the world on fire – it topped out at $380 million, compared to the $2.068 billion of The Force Awakens, the $1.332 billion of The Last Jedi, and even the $1.056 billion of Rogue One – there is one thing that everyone can agree on, and that is the fact that Lando Calrissian is probably the best character in the entire Star Wars universe.

Donald Glover did a fantastic interpretation of Billy Dee Williams, who gave the role such a unique swagger back in the day, which is why it makes us so very happy to announce that Williams will be returning to the role for the currently untitled Episode IX.

The Hollywood Reporter have announced that the rumours about Williams’ potential involvement increased hugely in the last few days when he was forced to drop out of a sci-fi convention due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts, but sources have since confirmed that it is due to him returning to the role of Lando for the first time since 1983’s Return Of The Jedi.

Williams will be joining fellow new cast addition Keri Russell (M:I-3, The Americans), as well as Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and John Boyega for J.J. Abrams’ new sequel closer.

We look forward to Williams’ bringing sexy back to space when Star Wars: Episode IX is released on 20 December 2019.
