Margot Robbie on some of the stunts in Birds Of Prey: “They were too risky, I couldn’t do them”

The brand new trailer shows them off in style.

There is a lot going on in the new trailer for Birds Of Prey, or to give the movie its full title, Birds Of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

We finally get to see Ewan McGregor’s villain Black Mask in his, well, Black Mask. We see Chris Messina as serial killer Victor Zsasz. We get to see Black Canary unleash her lung-popping superpower. We see Harley Quinn’s unique take on break-ups (it involves a lot of explosives, and some cheese in a can).

We also see that she has named her pet hyena after “that hunky Wayne” guy. So we know Bruce Wayne still exists in this world, but we don’t know if it’s Ben Affleck, or Robert Pattinson, or someone else new altogether.

Ditto for Joker, who Quinn dumps right at the top of the trailer. Is that still Jared Leto? It can’t be Joaquin Phoenix? So is that someone new, too?

And will the new movie set up to head into The Suicide Squad (the sequel/reboot due in 2021), or will it stand alone with no connection to it going forward, even though Robbie as Quinn is in that movie too? So many questions!

Well, the one thing we don’t have any questions about is just how great the action looks. That kick from above that sends a baddie through a car door? Ouch! We reckon the reason it all looks so slick is because director Cathy Yan brought on stunt firm 87eleven to assist on the stunt scenes, and they’ve previously worked on action epics like John Wick, Deadpool, and Atomic Blonde.

Back when they were promoting Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, JOE was lucky enough to sit down with Margot and her co-star Brad Pitt to chat about that movie, but considering Brad was playing DiCaprio’s stuntman, we had to ask if there were ever any particular stunts they’ve witnessed in their careers that they were really impressed by.

“Oh my gosh. So, so many,” Robbie told JOE. “Recently… I can’t talk about it, because the movie’s not out yet. There is a lot of REALLY cool stunts in the Birds Of Prey movie. Quite a few of them, I couldn’t do, because they were just too risky.

“But I’m constantly amazed by stunt performers. One of my brothers is actually a stuntie, so I have a deep appreciation for it.”

We can check them out on the big screen ourselves when Birds Of Prey is released in Irish cinemas on Friday 7 February.
