Black Panther has become the 4th movie ever to achieve this impressive milestone

Rory Cashin

It is only February, but we may have already seen 2018’s biggest blockbuster.

Black Panther has been in American cinemas only 10 days, and it has already gone to become a shockingly successful cinematic phenomenon.

You can read our review here, and to be entirely honest, we wouldn’t be hugely surprised if it winds up with a Best Picture nomination come the 2019 Oscars.

Early predictions had the movie looking to make around $100-$120 million in its opening weekend, and blew everyone away when it banked $202 million in the first three days alone.

The $200 million production was already in the black after that first weekend worldwide, when it jumped passed the $400 million box office mark.

Now, on the movie’s second weekend, it has banked $108 million in the US box office, becoming only the 4th movie ever to make over $100 million in its second weekend.

The previous three movies – Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World, and The Avengers – went on to bank $2.066 billion, $1.672 billion, and $1.518 billion, respectively.

Black Panther has already made over $700 million worldwide, so the billion dollar mark should be no problem.

There is also a strong chance that it may be the biggest box office hit of 2018, with the biggest competition this year being sequels to those movies that have already broke that landmark milestone: Avengers – Infinity War (April 27), Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25) and Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom (June 6).
