One scene from the Black Widow trailer hints at the arrival of another Avenger

It is subtle, but it is definitely there.

The first trailer Black Widow has only been out a few hours (full breakdown here), and already the internet is rife with theories, combing through each and every second of it, looking for clues and Easter Eggs.

What we do know is that the movie takes place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, with Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, forced to return to Budapest for [INSERT GUESS HERE], reunite with her family – played by Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour – and take on a new gaggle of villains.

One of those baddies is Taskmaster, who mimics the actions and fighting style of whomever he or she (we don’t know who is behind the mask in the movie version of the character) is fighting.

So, with that in mind, let us take another look at the trailer, specifically around the 1.26 mark in the trailer below:

Did you see it?

If not, don’t worry, we’ve screengrabbed it for you:

taskmaster

Yep, that is the Taskmaster, whipping out a bow and arrow.

And who else uses a bow and arrow? Yep, that would Hawkeye, who (SPOILERS FOR THE BIGGEST FILM IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA) was saved by Natasha in Endgame.

As any MCU fan worth their salt will know, Widow and Hawkeye have a running joke about some shared history in Budapest, but whatever that was, took place before the events of the first Avengers movie, so whatever Widow (and, potentially, Hawkeye) are facing here might be directly connected to that.

Or this particular scene with Taskmaster is a flashback scene to pre-Avengers, to that big Budapest event that began the unique working relationship between Widow and Hawkeye in motion.

We’ll know for sure when Black Widow arrives in Irish cinemas on 1 May 2020.
