True Detective director has been officially signed on to direct Bond 25
Okay. This feels like a good decision.
Danny Boyle was in.
Then Danny Boyle was out.
Then there was a short list of potentials.
None of which have been chosen, as of Thursday morning, it has been formally announced that Cary Joji Fukunaga will direct the as-yet-untitled Bond 25.
Variety report that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson said of their new director: "We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure."
Fukunaga caught everyone's attention when he directed the first season of True Detective, and since then has worked with Netflix on the powerful drama Beasts Of No Nation, and the upcoming sci-fi drama Maniac, which is released on Friday 21 September.
Fukunaga had also been previously attached to direct the remake of IT, but dropped out of that project due to "creative differences", the exact same reason Boyle dropped out of Bond 25.
Provided everything goes according to plan, Bond 25 will begin filming in London at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019, with a target release date of 14 February 2020.
