Bond star ‘could totally see’ Cillian Murphy as the next 007

Tommy Shelby as Bond? “That would be amazing!”

With Daniel Craig about to pick up the famous Walther PPK for one last outing on Bond 25, production on the next Bond film is accelerating now that Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle looks set to sit in the director’s chair.

Since taking over from Pierce Brosnan, Craig has been a very impressive 007 – Casino Royale and Skyfall were excellent – but given the nature of the character, change is inevitable.

As always, plenty of names have been linked as MI6’s recruits with Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender and Aidan Turner all heavily being rumoured as potential Bonds, but in recent weeks, the odds have been slashed on Cillian Murphy replacing Craig.

As stated previously, we think the Irish actor could make an excellent – although very different 007 – and when JOE’s Rory Cashin caught up with Miss Moneypenny (Naomi Harris) to chat about Rampage, we asked her about the idea of Murphy playing Bond.

Of course, Harris is no stranger to the Corkman’s work – they previously starred together in 28 Days Later, a film that was directed by Danny Boyle. FYI, Boyle also directed Cillian Murphy in the sci-fi Sunshine- and the Oscar-nominated actress could “totally” see the Peaky Blinders star as Bond.

When asked about the idea of Murphy as Bond, she said: “I’ve never heard that idea. That would be amazing – Danny (Boyle) and Cillian. I could totally see him as James Bond. Totally buying that, 100%.”

While Harris hasn’t officially confirmed her role in Bond 25, we would be incredibly surprised to see Miss Moneypenny not returning.

The next Bond film, the 25th in the series, is due out in November 2019 and Craig has said that he”wants to go out on a high note, and I can’t wait.”

When it comes through to Craig’s replacement as 007, it’s clear that Naomi Harris is a big fan of the Irish actor.

Take a look.
