You can now play one of the games from Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, but there’s a catch

Carl Kinsella

Bandersnatch

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was something of a game in and of itself.

The feature-length episode of Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series saw the viewer control the actions of Stefan as he descended into madness — leading to five possible different outcomes (most of which were typically grim).

Throughout the episode, Stefan is working on building a computer game called Bandersnatch, and working with a legendary game engineer called Colin Ritman.

One of the games we see Ritman designing is called Nohzdyve (a name which appears to be a reference to an earlier episode of Black Mirror titled Nosedive).

Now, the game is actually available to play through the Tuckersoft website — a website for the fictional games company that Stefan works for in Bandersnatch. But there’s a pretty major catch. In order to play the game, you have to download a ZS Spectrum Emulator – a program that mimics the OS of a personal computer from the 1980s’ Bandersnatch era. These can be pretty tricky to find, especially if you use an Apple device, which won’t open software from an unidentified programmer.

Still, it’s worth checking out, as is the rest of the Tuckersoft website. For fans of the show, the site is a treasure trove of references to past episodes — and several of the “games” seem to share premises with those seen in the show.

The Tuckersoft Games website can be accessed here. Try not to freak out too much.
